Undead Hunter (Kaizan)
Prestige class
Description
The Undead Hunter (Kaizan) must
possess both the desire and the skills that is the most demanding of any prestige classes.
Once a character determines that they must seek out becoming an undead hunter, they must first find a master who will
put them through the initiation rights.
They are feared for many reasons. Mostly the unwanted souls that unlive fear them because they do not pay homage to
any god. Instead, they are endowed with special powers from a mysterious mystical
source. Although they fear no evil the Kaizan are not blindly courageous. They only fear dying an unjust death. Honor is a special gift that can only be earned. Each Undead Hunter attains greatness thru equally great thought. Each Kaizan possesses general knowledge of undead and specific knowledge of the destruction of many special
undead. They are singular in purpose but spend a great deal of time toward building
networks of associates who can aid them later in their own quests.
Background
In the Mists of Cantar the Kaizan is a very feared soul. They are known
by many living and undead in the (Mists) land of Cantar. Presently only a handful of Kaizans roam the Cantarian lands.
Many other Hunters roam the Mists of Cantar, but only the Undead Hunter is feared adventuring there. The Kaizan of
Astoria have a strong brotherly bond that holds them together. They seek only
to destroy the undead of the world. The Plague has brought about a serious problem
that has lead the Kaizans to search for a solution. They believe the plague is
a form of undead and have sided with many to destroy those that are “infected”.
Requirements
The player character must possess a 12
in strength, dexterity, and intelligence. They also require a 14 charisma. Failing
to begin with these ability scores, means the character must be given a special Dungeon Master dispensation to become a Kaizan. They must begin with at least 2nd level arcane spells prior to seeking
out a Kaizan Master. They must also possess a base ATT of +3. Once a Kaizan,
the PC suffers 2 serious flaws for the great power they possess. They suffer
a 10% XP penalty at the end of each adventure, thus slowing them from the speed at which a party advances in level. The Kaizan also can not advance in any other class once they convert to becoming a Kaizan. They can not go back to their arcane roots. In fact they lose
the ability to cast arcane spells once they successfully pass their initiation rites.
Once you are in the society, you never can go back. Quite possibly the
worse feature, you lose any additional Level based bonus features given to other characters of equal level. For example you will not receive a 6th and 9th and 12th or even at 15th
level bonus feats like other characters, as you are on a path that provides you with its own
feats.
The initiation rite depends a great deal
on weather or not they have any former levels as a fighter. If fighter levels were attained prior to starting the rite, they
can forgo a full 4 months of training. Those with arcane backgrounds only have
a tough road ahead.
